Rani Mukherjee was born on 21 Mar '78. She is the daughter of director Ram Mukherjee. Being a cousin of the most successful actress Kajol, it's obvious that Rani too has got it through her genetic influences to enact the roles she's given. And it's a phenomenon that unless Rani hasn't put loads of concentration and tremendous personal effort in the roles she plays, she wouldn't have been where she is now. Though she had the introduction into the Bollywood through her first movie Raja Ki Aayegi Baraat, she was in the news with her wonderful performance in Ghulam and with the third movie Rani was in headlines again receiving the Best Supporting Actress award from Filmfare for her active and playful performance in Kuch Kuch Hota Hai thus enhancing herself in the Bollywood.

Rani was proud to be associated with actor-director Kamal Haasan and was thrilled to have his film 'Hey Ram' in her lap. But the film did not propel her career to the extent she had expected. The relationship of Rani with Govinda had become quiet a hot topic of discussion amongst colleagues and the press. The Yash Chopra production 'Mujhse Dosti Karoge' flopped but her acting is very much appreciated in the film. A series of unsuccessful runs have not dampened her giggly self. She continues to be sprightly and seen in popular ads, the Fanta ad being the latest. Recently seen in "Yuva," "Hum Tum", she's currently busy filming several films including "1857: The Rising" and "Bajirao Mastani." Rani got the devastating looks, charm and a beautiful face the one thing that seperates her from the great and successful actress. In a span of 5 years she has worked with all the top actors and top class producers and the directors.
